The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) administers
the CS Executive and Professional test series to gauge the expertise of company
secretaries in India. The two papers that make up the test series, Paper 1 and Paper 2,
are given twice a year, in June and December.
Business Law and Practice, Mercantile Law, and General English
make up Paper 1's three sections. Business Legal and Practice discusses fundamental
business law principles as well as company law, contract law, competition law,
insolvency law, and intellectual property law. The Indian Contract Act, Sale of Goods
Act, Partnership Act, Negotiable Instruments Act, and General Principles of Commercial
Law are all examples of mercantile law. General English questions on grammar,
vocabulary, precise writing, comprehension, and essay writing measure the candidate's
communication abilities.
Paper 2 is broken up into two sections: Tax Laws and Practical
Problems. Income tax laws, wealth tax laws, and GST rules are all covered by tax laws.
The candidate's ability to apply the ideas from Paper 1 to practical problems is
evaluated in the practical problems section.
Aspirants must first have a solid understanding of the subject in
order to prepare for these exams. To obtain a sense of the exam format and types of
questions asked, they should then start working through the test series for CS
Professionals. The most recent changes to relevant amendments must also be kept up with.
Candidates may do so by consulting printed materials or online sources.
